Photo I & II

Photo I - Credits (2.5)

In Introduction to Photography students explore the foundations of photography as a visual fine art. This course guides students through the basics of photography, focusing on how to use a digital camera and learning compositional skills. Introductory Adobe Lightroom and printing techniques are explored, so that students may produce photographic prints. At the conclusion of each project, students will critique, evaluate and reflect upon techniques they have learned and the photographs they have produced. At the end of the course, students create a portfolio exemplifying their best photographs. Students are not required to supply their own camera, but are encouraged to use their own, if they have one.

Photo II  - Credits (2.5)    prerequisite (Photo I)

Advanced Photography builds upon the knowledge and skills gained during Introduction to Photography class. Students explore advanced camera controls, practice new Lightroom skills and review the elements and principals of design. Assignments ask the students to explore concepts more than techniques. Students will however learn various lighting and portrait techniques, create a photojournalistic style story, and further investigate photographers who have shaped the art.  Similar to Intro to Photography students will critique, evaluate, and reflect upon their own photographs, as well as have discussions and critiques about each others' photographs. Advanced photography primarily uses manual camera settings. Students are not required to supply their own camera, but are highly encouraged to use their own, if they have one.
